Friday Night Lights

Standard

Several Badgers football players came by to say hi to the kids here at the Children’s Hospital today, and Wes and I got our picture taken with them. It was a good day.

We met with the Nurse Case Manager, all of the residents on rounds, Genetics, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Health Psychology, Audiology, Oncology, and had labs run. And somehow we fit in a ton of play time. Wes has been ridiculously happy the whole time we have been here, even with having to not eat for 7+ hours on Tuesday and Thursday. But when the OT/PT people brought a mat in so he could crawl and play, wow, did his face light up! He hardly stopped from 2 – 9pm!

Just since Monday he has been pulling himself up to a standing position, and since yesterday he is able to get himself into a sitting position from crawling.

Some of the best memories from today were of Jenny helping Wes dance. She sang him the entire “Baby Got Back” song (changing the key line to “makes me so happy”), and “Shake Your Groove Thing”. That boy loves to dance!

We received a lovely visit from Theresa with nourishment to get us through this long night.

Wes started his chemo at 10pm tonight.

Seems like there should have been fireworks or something when the first med went in. I did chant “go Wes”.

About grabafriend

I am 34, a mother of one sweet little 6 1/2 month old baby boy, wife of a social worker, trainer/walker/provider for 2 wonderful dogs, volunteer foster home for a Min Pin Rescue (www.minpinrescue.org), co-owner of two doggie daycares in Madison WI (www.thedoghaus.biz), and part owner in a giant behemoth of a pontoon boat. Yep, think that's all the labels I can affix to myself. I am blogging about my journey to get in the best shape of my life from 9/1/12 to 10/1/13, and bring my friends along for the ride by asking them to pick a month and focus on some healthy activity with me.

  1. Jenny singing (a modified version of) Baby Got Back is something you definitely should have recorded & posted. That’s something that will always put a smile on your face!!

    • Jake, Angie and of course Wes. Just to let you know, I went to church with my grandkids ( and it didn’t fall down). As the commercial says “I believe in the power of medicine and science but I also believe in stacking the deck!!! Love,
      Marcia

    • Kim – there have been many performances by Jenny over the years that I wish I had recorded. Santa Baby is always a classic. I will work on getting more video of these priceless performances with Jenny’s next visit!
