Thanksgiving in October!

Thanksgiving in October!  That’s right!  But without the turkey – well, it’s always without the turkey for me since I am a vegetarian, but you get the idea.  No big meal to cook, no need to clean the house, no special sales flyers to pour over and plan a crazy shopping trip at 3am.  But what I do want to do is that age-old tradition of making a list of things I am thankful for.  Right now, right here, this moment.

*health insurance

*that our health insurance company has assigned us a Case Manager who’s sole job is to make my interactions with the insurance company easier including staying on top of referrals

*American Family Children’s Hospital

*doctors and nurses who make the impossibly difficult choice to specialize in Pediatric Oncology

*Fall – Devil’s Lake here we come!

*human capacity to care about others and be generous

*my husband, family, friends, and strangers

*Wes’ new way of laughing -sounds like a mix between Count Dracula and a dog who has a rawhide stuck in their throat

*being a co-owner of two successful businesses

*dogs – enough said

*my health – the better to care for others with, though I would trade places with my baby in a heart beat

*the World Wide Web – what an amazing resource for research, right at my fingertips

*the guy at Office Max that helped me load two boxes of paper when I had a rare completely helpless moment and was trying to hold back tears

*carpet cleaner – there was a baby poop-smearing story that you may or may not want to hear more about

About grabafriend

I am 34, a mother of one sweet little 6 1/2 month old baby boy, wife of a social worker, trainer/walker/provider for 2 wonderful dogs, volunteer foster home for a Min Pin Rescue (, co-owner of two doggie daycares in Madison WI (, and part owner in a giant behemoth of a pontoon boat. Yep, think that's all the labels I can affix to myself. I am blogging about my journey to get in the best shape of my life from 9/1/12 to 10/1/13, and bring my friends along for the ride by asking them to pick a month and focus on some healthy activity with me.
