The benefit last Saturday was incredible. We were, and still are, overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity. It is amazing to us that our friends and family, AND complete strangers, choose to give their precious time and dollars to us. There was a lot of laughter to be had between the Experiment Royale Improv performance and Kimmy’s humor during the live auction. DJ Toons for Tunes had his face painted as a KISS band member by the talented Dawn and proceeded to photo-bomb folks throughout the morning between his fantastic music choices. It was so fantastic to see you all, to lay eyes on you. And boy are there a lot of you!
I hear or read comments about how social media and emails are not good for our human communication, that so much gets lost in the translation to electronic media. Talking to people at the benefit that we hardly know, but are clearly with us on this journey every day because of this blog and our Facebook page, I was astonished. Our story is not lost in the translation to electronic media, we are found. We are not alone.
I recently came across this quote: “character is what you do when you think no one else is looking”. I get the “don’t be two-faced” aspect of that quote. But I’ll tell ya. Some times over the last two months when I am alone, I cry and am angry and sad and overwhelmed. And think about this – it’s pretty tough to volunteer or donate to a cause without anyone seeing you. I would argue that if you are displaying an aspect of your character, someone is affected. Someone is looking. Good character or bad, someone is a witness. So try this on for size instead: “don’t just ignite a spark, ignite a fire”.

Today is the 2nd day of the 3rd round of Chemo for Wes. After today we are half way through his treatment! I leave you with this video of Wes. I call it “I ate my own foot and I liked it”.
